The "Antilia" was the last ship that Captain Charles Reuben Simmons sailed on. Born on September 27th, 1895. Simmons left Saba as a young man (as was often the case) for the United States. He attended the navigation school at White Hall Street in New York City and obtained his license as a second mate, with experience he went on to become first mate and eventually obtained a Masters license.
On April 4th, 1917 whilst quarter master aboard of the 'Missouri', he was torpedoed off Genoa in the Mediterranean and spent several days at sea before being rescued. The ship was under the command of Captain Hilton Simmons, Menthor Hassell of Windwardside was first mate, Earl Simmons was quarter master and 'Pietie' Johnson was a sailor.
